The Lake Beverage company is a family-owned and operated alcohol distributor in Rochester, NY, serving retailers across several NY counties. The company has a long tradition, active since the Prohibition repeal in 1933 and distributing beverages in 1944.

They follow the three-tier system and cooperate with over 1600 retail accounts. The Lake Beverage operating area is in Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Ontario, Yates, and a part of Steuben County. The Lake Beverage product portfolio is quite long and varied, with beer, wine, hard seltzers, distilled spirits, malternatives, and non-alcoholic beverages.

History of Lake Beverage Co

In 1933, when Prohibition ended in the USA, William Partridge, a man from Webster, NY, went from making cider to distributing beer from the Rochester Brewing Company. In 1944, Dick Herr bought William Partridge’s beer-distributing business, later moving it to 80 North Main St. in Fairport.

In 1949, Lake Beverage acquired the rights to distribute Anheuser-Busch products. In 1966, Dick Herr’s brother-in-law, Ray Scheible, bought the business and moved the company’s headquarters to 23 Linden Park in East Rochester, NY. Hank Schroeder, Ray Scheible’s son-in-law, joined the company in 1974, and in 1986, Bernie Schroeder, Hank’s son, joined the family business.

In 1991, the company moved again to 900 John St, in West Henrietta, where it is still located. Lake Beverage bought West Beer, expanding its serving area to Livingston, Yates, Ontario, and parts of Steuben County.

The company welcomed another family member in 2011, when Bernie’s daughter Kristie Barr joined the company. In 2012, Lake Beverage expanded its services to include wine and spirits on top of being beer distributors.

In 2019, Lake Beverage was awarded the Ambassadors of Excellence in bronze designation by the Anheuser-Busch brand, and they celebrated their 75th anniversary. Today, Hank Schroeder is the Chairman of the Board, and Bernie Schroeder is the company’s President.

Lake Beverage has a varied portfolio, including beer from NY brands, domestic brands, craft breweries and ciders, import beers, wines, distilled spirits, hard seltzers, malternatives, and non-alcoholic beverages. The products come from manufacturers worldwide, and the people of NY State can find these products in over 1600 retail locations, like restaurants, bars, liquor stores, etc.
