While direct-to-consumer opportunities are more limited for spirits than wine, there are some options available to brand owners. Malkin also touches on the legal considerations brands should make before entering a relationship with a third party.

“What you as a brand want to make sure of is that the third party is responsible for making sure that the retailers they work with are compliant, the issue is that most retailers can only ship within their state,” reveals Malkin. “There are certainly opportunities in some states where retailers can ship from state-to-state, but those are quite limited.”
