Capitol-Husting Co History & Facts

The company’s history goes back to two companies, the E.L. Husting Company, established in 1877, and the Capitol Liquor Company, founded in 1946. The E.L. Husting Company established a factory producing soda water and added weissbier to their product offer. Their production flourished during Prohibition, as they made “near beer,” which proved very popular.

They also became the exclusive bottler for Coca-Cola for Milwaukee County, expanding their services after Prohibition ended, becoming a wholesale distributor of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. They closed their soda production in 1960, focusing on the wholesale distribution business.
The Capitol Liquor Company was founded in 1946 as a spirits wholesaler and distributor. Jim Alevizos was initially an employee who entered the management and later became the company owner. Under his guidance, the company expanded rapidly, and they bought and merged the E.L. Husting Company, becoming the Capitol-Husting Company.

The newly formed company was run by Jim Alevizos, who his son, Greg Alevizos, joined in 1973. Today, Greg Alevizos is the owner and CEO, and his children Angela and Jamie are active in the family business.

Initially, the Capitol-Husting Company served the southeastern counties in Wisconsin, but it expanded its service area in the 1990s. They formed a subsidiary company named Allstate Liquor and Wine Company, and in 2003, Allstate Liquor and Wine Company became a statewide distributor.
