The Briggs Company History & Facts
The story of Briggs Distributing started in 1934, when a master plumber, Fred L. Briggs, obtained a beverage distributing license. Fred and his wife Georgia moved to Billings and started selling Great Falls Select out of their apartment at the Lincoln Hotel. Fred did the distributing, Georgia did the books, and the company grew steadily.
The company expanded, and new members, including Pete Decker, joined the Briggs Distributing team. Briggs Distributing moved into their newly built warehouse in 1957, which they used until 1979. Decker took over the company and continued to grow and develop the product portfolio. Today, Briggs Distributing is run by John Decker, the son of Pete Decker, and other members of the Decker family.
Briggs Distributing has beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages in its product portfolio today. Their list has over 80 domestic, craft, and imported beer brands, and their wine portfolio includes about 300 wine brands with more than 2000 products. Also, they carry non-alcoholic beverages like energy drinks, water, juice, and mixers.
The company follows the three-tier distribution model, meaning they sell and deliver their products to fine wine shops, restaurants, bars, convenience, and grocery stores all over Montana.
