The TTB has proposed rule changes that would affect the requirements and standard of fill sizes for wine and spirits. Canned wines would benefit from some rule changes that would remove all wine container sizes except for a 50 ml minimum. The current requirement states that canned wines must be in 12.6 oz containers instead of the typical 12 oz cans that are used for sodas and beer. A notice from the TTB claims that they aim to “eliminate unnecessary regulatory requirements and provide consumers broader purchasing options”. The proposed rule changes will also benefit wineries as it will speed up the process of production and eliminate the need to make custom orders for appropriate sized cans.
