The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has extended its exemptions of certain Internal Revenue Code requirements from June 30, 2020, to December 31, 2020, in order to allow distilled spirits plants to continue facilitating hand sanitizer production. Congress also approved additional flexibilities for hand sanitizer production through 2020 in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. The TTB released a document providing question-and-answer guidance for tax-free withdrawals of distilled spirits and hand sanitizer throughout the remainder of 2020.
