The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved 180,400 products in 2019, a 4.5% increase from the prior year. Wine represented the majority of new entrants at 123,000, followed by beer with 41,300 products, while the spirits category introduced 16,100 products.
However, the number of new spirits products represented the largest growth rate at 10.7% more products than the prior year. The number of new wine products represented only a 2.3% increase from 2018 and the number of new beer products increased by 9%.
The percentage of new products was almost evenly split between domestic products (88,800) and imported products (91,500), but domestic numbers increased more significantly, up 7.2% compared to a 2% increase of imported products.
