An attempt to add an extra $250 billion to the Paycheck Protection Program in the CARES Act did not get through the Senate on Thursday as lawmakers had hoped it might. Congress is reportedly divided over whether a portion of the funds should be reserved for community banks that do not require an existing banking relationship to serve business owners. It is expected the discussions will continue next week.
