After a flurry of bolt-on acquisitions and investments in recent years, 2020 saw blockbuster deals in the beverage alcohol industry. Does that mean strategic players have maxed out the so-called Long Tail of products they’re willing to support and are focusing once again on deals that move the needle?

He explores the shifting dynamics in the marketplace, and the strategies brands have used to differentiate themselves in a lackluster acquisitions market.

“While there’s a little bit of long tail fatigue, there’s certainly plenty of appetite in the market for making acquisitions,” says Rannekleiv. “But (investors) may be raising the bar a little bit more and thinking a bit more cautiously about the acquisitions being made.
