National retailers in Florida fight for liquor wall to come down in grocery stores

sentinel post 122815“Major policy changes like the fight over the wall… negatively impact Florida businesses and usually trace back to out-of-state companies seeking to change the law to better fit their business models,” said Sarah Bascom, a spokeswoman Businesses Unite

Big box retailers across Florida, including Walmart, Walgreens, and Target, are fighting to undo laws from Prohibition to allow liquor and groceries to be sold in the same store. In the current setup, there must be a separate entrance for the liquor and grocery stores.

Opponents argue this would enable easier access to liquor for minors, while supporters argue the current law is outdated.
