Okoboji Wines – Company History
Okoboji Wines started its story in 1989; the idea came to the founder Bob Reed who took a trip to California with his wife and saw the opportunity of bringing quality Californian wines to Iowa consumers. Bob partnered with his son Mark, and Okoboji Wines was born.
The company started as a trustworthy family business, with Bob and Mark Reed at the helm; they were later joined by Mark’s wife, Sheila, who still runs the administrative part of the business. Even though Bob passed away in 2011, Okoboji Wines has continued to grow and develop. They are continuing Bob’s mission of finding small, family-owned boutique wineries and bringing them closer to the consumers.
Okoboji Wines now employs about 40 people, and the third generation of Reeds has joined the family business recently. The Reed family is working relentlessly to grow the business; Okoboji Wines started from the Iowa Lakes area and has since spread to the entire state of Iowa and South Dakota.
Their product portfolio is very impressive, and they have over 3500 products on their offer. They import wines from France, Spain, Italy, Chile, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and the UK. They are also working with spirits brands and distributing sake and other spirits. Their domestic wine portfolio includes wines from select boutique wineries from California, Oregon, and Washington and micro-wineries from Iowa, Minnesota, Kentucky, North Carolina, Idaho, New York, Missouri, New Mexico, and Virginia.
Apart from importing and distributing fine wines from all over the world to Iowa and South Dakota consumers, Okoboji Wines also has supporting services like staff training, tasting events, shelf configuration consulting, wine menu consulting, etc. The company provides printing services to bars and restaurants.
