Lipman Brothers is a family-owned alcohol distributor in Tennessee. This was the first alcohol distribution company in Tennessee, and in the 80+ years the company has operated, they have amassed an impressive portfolio that today includes wine, spirits, beer, bottled water, mixers, and also Riedel crystal and cigars.

The company today has a corporate headquarters in Nashville, but it also has offices and distribution centers in other parts of the state. They supply 75% of the states in Tennessee and are working on establishing a presence in the other 25%. The Lipman Brothers customers include retail stores, grocery stores, convenience stores, and plenty of bars and restaurants.

The company has a long history and a prosperous relationship with its clients. This is due to the excellent company policy in place. The History of Lipman Brothers

The story of Lipman Brothers began in 1934 in Kentucky, when Harry Lipman founded Franklin Distributing Co in Franklin, KY. Harry was later joined by his younger brother Meyer, and the company was moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and renamed Lipman Brothers. After the repeal of the prohibition in Tennessee, the Lipman Brothers Distributing company was the first one to distribute Jack Daniel’s, along with Glenmore Distilling Co, Bacardi, and Fleischmann’s.

The second Lipman generation enters the scene, with Harry’s son Norman becoming a part of the operations. In the 1970s, Harry retires from the company, with his son Norman taking over, and bringing the third generation in place with Norman’s son Robert taking a position in the company. Since Robert held a degree in Enology, he established a separate wine division.

Norman Lipman passed in 1982, and in 1988 Robert S. Lipman, his son becomes the sole owner of Lipman Brothers by purchasing the entire family business. The company continued to expand beyond the wines and spirits products, and started a beer line, with several craft beers, and later to include Riedel crystal and premium cigars. They continued to change and grow, and reach new markets in the 1990s and 2000s. 

In 2020, the Lipman Companies moved to a new, state-of-the-art building that now houses the main warehouse and corporate offices. This is a 375,000 square foot building that is built with modern materials that enable easier climate control to better house temperature-sensitive beverages like wines and beers. Today Lipman Brothers employs over 200 people and is known as one of the best wine, beer, and spirits distributors in Tennessee.
