History of Heritage Wine & Spirits

Heritage Wine & Spirits was founded in 2015 by Michael Smart, who has worked in the wine and spirits supply industry since 1982. After working as a senior sales manager for Brown Forman and Allied Domecq, he moved back to Louisville and started the Smart Beverage Group in 2005; this company was an importer and state-wide distributor of wine and spirits from Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Another key person in the formation of Heritage Wine & Spirits is Jennifer Doering, who has worked in the Kentucky three-tier alcohol distribution system for over 30 years.

Today, Heritage Wine & Spirits is dedicated to providing impeccable service to its customers. They currently operate with an impressive spirits portfolio that includes Absinthe, Armagnac, bourbon, bitters, brandy, calvados, cognac, cordials, gin, grappa, moonshine, mixers, scotch, tequila, rum, mezcal, vermouth, vodka, and whisky. Their wine list includes wines from Argentina, Australia, the United States, France, Chile, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, and South Korea.

On the smaller side, Heritage Wine and Spirits operates with less than 20 employees out of a climate-controlled warehouse in Simpsonville, Kentucky. They have sales representatives in Louisville, Lexington, and Northern and Western Kentucky.
