Empire Distributors was founded by Max Kahn in 1940. He started a small delivery business with only two trucks and one warehouse in Atlanta, Georgia. After the end of WWII, the company continued to grow and operate in Georgia. It was in 1984 when Empire Distributors spread its wings in North Carolina by purchasing several local distributors.
In 2010, Empire Distributors made an agreement with Berkshire Hathaway, effectively becoming a subsidiary. In the same year, the company expanded in Tennessee, and in 2014, it further expanded into Colorado.
Through some smart acquisitions and careful expansion, the company has become among the leading wine and spirits distributors in Tennessee and Colorado. In 2019, they opened a state-of-the-art logistical facility to house the Georgia operations. This included a new corporate headquarters in Austell, Georgia.
