The History of Eder Bros Alcohol Wholesalers and Distributors

1933 marked several momentous events in US history, and the repeal of Prohibition was one of them. The same year, Sidney Eder and Meyer Cohen, two young men from Connecticut, decided to start a wholesale alcohol distribution company named Cohen Bros Distributors.

The company was first situated in the basement of the grocery store where Sidney Eder worked. The company started to grow and soon moved to a more prominent location on Railroad Avenue in Greenwich, CT. In the 1940s, Sidney Eden bought the company from Meyer Cohen and brought his brother Arthur to join what was now known as Eder Bros, Inc.

The Eder brothers expanded their service area and opened a second location on Chapel Street in New Haven. They soon outgrew the Greenwich location and moved to 11 Eder Road in West Haven, establishing what is now known as one of the leading alcohol distributors in Connecticut.

Today, Eder Bros operates with over 100 highly skilled employees, some of whom are second and third-generation. The Eder Bros product portfolio has come a long way since the early days. It now includes brandy, cognac, cider, gin, mixers, rum, sherry, port, sake, domestic and imported wines, tequila, mezcal, vodka, and whisky.

Eder Bros has an in-house promotions department, graphics department, merchandising department, wine shows, and wine and spirits events. All of these provide a full-service offer for the Eder Bros clients.
