The History

The Bellavance Beverage Company was founded in 1902 as J.A. Bellavance & Co., as a saloon and beer/liquor/wine wholesaler located at 2-4 Canal Street in Nashua, NH. The company delivered cased goods and wooden kegs throughout the city with a horse and wagon and served patrons these same brands on the saloon portion of the premises. 

Early brands included Pickwick Ale and Old Eye Opener whiskey. Prohibition began in 1920, and during this time, the business moved to 21 High Street and stayed afloat by selling soda and hand-rolled cigars. With the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the company resumed its wholesale beer business and relocated to 47 Elm Street.

1935 Joseph Jr. Bellavance and his brother Samuel J. Bellavance incorporated the company as Bellavance Beverage Co. In 1954, they secured an Anheuser-Busch products contract, and business boomed. 1962, the company built a new warehouse at 31 Quincy Street and expanded again in 1976. In the later 1980s, the fourth generation of Bellavance family members joined the family business.

Bellavance Beverage expanded again in 2004 and soon acquired the rights to distribute Heineken. The company continued to grow, expanding its service areas in Keene to the Vermont border, Upper Valley, and the Sunapee region, doubling the number of employees. This led to expanding the warehouse in Nashua and establishing a cross-dock in Keene. In 2021, the company moved to a new 142,000-square facility in Londonderry, NH.

The new facility features state-of-the-art technologies and has a 1 MW solar array powering 100% of the company’s operations and sending about 15% extra to the community power grid. They currently employ close to 100 employees. They have an exciting portfolio, including domestic, imported, and craft beers, hard ciders, non-alcoholic beer, seltzers, flavored malt beverages, spirits cocktails, and various wines. 

The Bellavance Beverage Company actively supports the local community through organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of NH, the Nashua Police Athletic League, the Nashua Boys and Girls Club, the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, the local Rotary clubs, and more.
