A California bill called Skinner’s SB 1164, nicknamed the “Craft Distiller Op-pour-tunity” Act passed through legislature allowing 82 California craft distillers sell directly to consumers without a tasting room. In California, distilleries can only sell craft liquors if they have a tasting room and have participated in a tasting. If a craft distillery did not have a tasting room, they are only be able to rely on distributors for sales. The bill eliminates the tasting room prerequisite and will allow an increase annual production of 100,000 gallons to 150,000 gallons for volume craft distillers. The law will be subject to signature by Gov. Jerry Brown on September 30th.
