The US has always been a global leader in “creative destruction,” the economic phenomena of creating new economic structures by destroying the old. This approach has the US leading all other nations in new business creation during the pandemic. New business applications in the third quarter of 2020 were the highest they’ve been since the US Census Bureau started tracking this data back in 2004, according to University of Maryland economist John Haltiwanger.
