grapes 062816The TTB has recently proposed updates that will change wine labeling regulations for wineries purchasing grapes or bulk wine from out of state.  For wineries purchasing out of state grapes, their label’s appellation will now have to list the state in which the grapes were grown.  The use of an AVA will also be forbidden, unless the wine is “fully finished” in the state.   While there would be notable updates to the bill of landing document for bulk wine, wineries purchasing out of state bulk wine will no longer be able to list their own name after the “produced and bottled by” statements on their labels.  Percentage requirements for variety, appellation, and vintage will also be updated for both cases.
