The TTB has extended the commenting period on their proposed wine labeling revisions for wine made from out-of-state grapes and bulk wine. The period originally had a deadline of August 22, but will now be open until December 7 of this year. The extension was granted by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau after various wine industry trade associations requested the need for more time. The revisions in question could eliminate the current exemption, which “provides an in-state work-around for winemakers that purchase grapes from remote AVAs to indicate the source of their grapes and to provide consumers with accurate information about what is actually in their wine, no matter where the grapes were actually grown or ultimately fermented into wine.” Visit ttb.gov for more information.
